SCIENTISTS President Gerhardt G. Schurig, D.V.M., Ph.D., Dean of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine/Virginia Tech and Professor of Immunology and has extensive experience as a lecturer and scientist in the areas of general immunology and host response to bacterial infections. He received his D.V.M. from the University of Chile and Ph.D. from Cornell University. He is a recipient of grant awards from numerous federal agencies and is a member of the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center Advisory Committee. Vice President and Director of Research Stephen M. Boyle, Ph.D., is a Professor of Microbiology and has extensive experience as a lecturer in both human and animal medicine related to microbial pathogenesis and as a scientist in the areas of bacterial gene regulation and genetic engineering. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island and is the recipient of a Senior National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health and research grant awards from the Medical Research Council of Canada, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense and the United States Department of Agriculture. Treasurer Nammalwar Sriranganathan, D.V.M., Ph.D., Professor of Microbiology and has extensive experience as a large animal clinician, a diagnostic bacteriologist certified by the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists and as a lecturer in bacterial diseases and as a scientist in the areas of bacterial virulence factors and bioremediation of infectious diseases waste. He received his D.V.M. from the University of Agricultural Sciences in India and his Ph.D. from Oregon State University. He performed his postdoctoral work at Washington State University as a USDA and National Institutes of Health fellow. He is the recipient of grants and awards from the Department of Defense, National Institutes of Health, and the United States Department of Agriculture.
